British IP Day 2018
4 July 2018
Today marks the third annual British IP Day - a celebration of the huge contribution that intellectual property makes to the UK, culturally and economically.
To mark the day the latest Online Copyright Infringement (OCI) tracker has been launched by the IPO.
Meanwhile our main event sees creators and IP-rich business owners from across the diverse industries represented by the Alliance once again descend on Parliament. There, designers, authors, brand owners, artists, publishers, photographers and others will hear from IP minister Sam Gyimah MP before meeting their local MP to tell the story of how crucial intellectual property is to their work and success.
Guests will be taken on a tour to hear about the traditions and inner workings of Parliament and see magnificent and famous sites such as Central Lobby. With both Houses sitting the benches of Chambers themselves will unfortunately be inaccessible, however guests will experience the excitement of a busy day of business at a crucial time of the year.
Former IP Minister Baroness Neville-Rolfe, together with Liberal Democrat Creative Industries Spokesperson Lord Clement-Jones, will host guests for a drink or Afternoon Tea in the impressive setting of the Lords Bar. Both are senior figures in their respective parties, long-standing advocates of the creative industries and strong supporters of the Alliance for Intellectual Property.
Our Summer Reception will then see leading stakeholders from industry, consumer groups and law enforcement gather on the Terrace Pavilion in the House of Commons, along with parliamentarians from across the political spectrum. The event will feature presentation of the IP Champion Award and entertainment from some shining examples of the UK's creative output.
Shadow Secretary of State for Business, Energy and Industrial Strategy, Rebecca Long Bailey MP, will be our keynote speaker. We will also have entertainment from Classic BRIT Award winning saxophonist Amy Dickson, and drinks and canapés will be served throughout the evening.
Sincere thanks to our reception sponsors, British Association for Screen Entertainment, BPI, Film Distributors' Association and the Premier League.
